Cr Steven Toomey

Steve Toomey was elected as Councillor for The Gap Ward in 2016 and today serves as part of Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner’s team in Brisbane City Council.

 

From Far North Queensland, his family were originally involved in farming and rail. He first moved to the ward in 1997 to further his trade in electronics. Before joining Council he worked for a global electrical company as an estimator in their building technologies team. Steve has a trade qualification and also qualifications in project management and business.

Steve is a strong advocate for our local community and protecting our natural environment.

Protecting Our Communities

Steve lives in Ashgrove with his wife and two children who both attended local schools as Councillor he has delivered improvements in the ward to local parks, roads, footpaths and major infrastructure in the ward.

Protecting Local Environment

Steve is actively involved in protecting our local environment and is President of Men of The Trees and a Trustee of the local environmental group SOWN. Both Mt Coot-tha and the D’Aguilar National Park are part of The Gap Ward and he has explored much of this territory.

Supporting Service Personnel

Steve is a strong advocate for serving and returned service personnel and actively engages with the Ashgrove, Bardon and The Gap RSLs that all reside within The Gap Ward.

Walking the Walk

Steve has walked the Kokoda Trek in New Guinea and Overland Trek from Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park in Tasmania. In 2015 he participated in the Mates4Mates trek in the WW1 Queenslander Challenge and is honoured to be an Ambassador for Trek2Health.
